There is such a wide variety of species to look out for in North Sulawesi it’s almost impossible to make a ‘must see’ list. However, the areas around Gangga Island, Bangka, Lembeh, and Manado are known to be home to at least 8 types of ghost pipefish, not to mention the stick and banded varieties. (more…)

North Sulawesi is an absolute wonderland for marine species, and this includes 8 species of hippocampus, or seahorses. Even more spectacularly, 4 of the 8 species are pygmy seahorses, which are magical to spot. Frogfishes are a very unique fish of the anglerfish family Antennariidae. These fish are found in almost all tropical and subtropical seas in the world, including the waters of North Sulawesi. In fact, in the Lembeh Strait, a regular dive site for guests at Gangga Island Resort & Spa, no less than 9 different species have been identified. If you’re looking for frogfishes, North Sulawesi is one of the best places in the world to find them. (more…)
